Annual car show makes Gonzales debut Friday

Expect street closures this weekend

The 8th Annual Hot Rods and Hatters Car Show will be making its first ever stop in Gonzales starting Friday, and those looking to travel downtown should expect some street closures and delays for the anticipated 1,000 cars expected to participate.

Starting Thursday morning at 6 a.m., the interior areas of Texas Heroes and Confederate squares will be closed to public parking so that the festival can set up shop. It will be a similar footprint to what happens each October for the Come and Take It fest. The squares will remain closed until 10 a.m. Sunday.

And at 6 a.m. Friday, the 400 and 500 blocks of St. James and St. Paul streets, the 400-600 blocks of St. Joseph Street, and the 300-400 blocks of St. George, St. Lawrence, and St. Louis streets will be closed to traffic until 10 a.m. Sunday.

And beginning Friday evening at 6 p.m., the 400 and 500 blocks of St. James Street, 400-900 blocks of St. Joseph and St. Paul streets, the 300 and 400 blocks of St. Louis, St. Lawrence, and St. George streets, and the 400 blocks of St. Francis, St. Andrew, Jones, and Badger streets will be closed to traffic. Barricades will be in place by city officials to create detours around the car show area. They will all reopen Sunday morning at 10 a.m.

The car show is free for those wanting to get a closer look, as well as a free music stage during the day. However, Confederate Square will be closed off for the Saturday night dance featuring Rick TreviƱo. Admittance to the concert will be $5 per person.
