The Gonzales High School baseball team's season ended with a sweep in the 4A Bi-District round of the playoffs to the Canyon Lake Hawks.
The rare home-and-home best-of-three series opened May 7 at Gonzales High School with a 13-1 loss in a game in which the Apaches were never close.
The result was the same – albeit the path a little different – the afternoon of May 8 at Canyon Lake.
The Apaches jumped out to a 1-0 lead and were down 2-1 entering the bottom of the third, when the Hawks put up three big innings to end the game in the bottom of the fifth, 14-3.
Gonzales entered the Bi-District playoff round as the No. 4 against 4A District 28 champion Canyon Lake (8-2, 24-7).
Please see the May 13 print and e-edition of The Inquirer for more on the series.
