The Gonzales Apaches hosted the Navarro Panthers for a non-district game Tuesday, Dec. 18.
The Apaches fell to Navarro, 48-23, and dropped to 6-10 on the season.
Gonzales struggle in early in the game with Navarro jumping out to a 10-1 lead in the middle of the first quarter.
The Apaches quickly turned it around in the second period and made it 24-20, and trailed by four at half, but the offense stalled in the second half and only scored three points.
“Couldn't make a shot. They were getting confused defensively. They just, I'm gonna say, it's my fault. They just, they weren't ready. You know, we knew what they're gonna do. They just didn't execute, so we’ve got to do a better job and just keep learning, keep growing,” Apaches head basketball Steven Pinchback said.
The Apaches will host the Goliad Tigers at home Friday, Dec. 20 and Pinchback and his team will be preparing for their next challenge to move on from the Navarro loss.
“We just gonna go back to the drawing board, watch film, prepare. Know our opponent, try to shoot the ball a little bit better. I mean, 23 points is probably, you know, that's not normally what we do. So just got to tighten up and keep playing. We're still trying to figure things out. But like I said we're about a .500 team, so we do good, do bad. We just got to do more good than we do bad,” Pinchback said.
The Apaches will travel to Wimberley Friday, Dec. 27 for their final tournament of the season; they’ll take on Belton and Village Tech.
Gonzales will return home Tuesday, Dec. 31 for a game against Smithville.
The Smithville game tips off at 6:30 p.m. and the Goliad game tips off at 4:30 p.m.
