The Gonzales Apaches FC are back on the soccer field for the 2024-25 soccer season.

The Apaches traveled to San Antonio for a scrimmage match against the Veterans Memorial Patriots Friday, Dec. 20.

Gonzales head soccer coach Shea Seip enters his third season with the team and is excited about how his team played against a 5A school.

"It's good. It's our third game, and that's the second game in two days. The boys played well. They bought it to a 5A and made some silly mistakes, and at the end of day, we're just here to get better," Seip said.

The Apaches fell to the Patriots, 3-1, but kept the match close trailing only 2-1 until the final five minutes.

"They started to play. They started to come at them. The way this game is, you let up and that's when they start scoring goals," Seip said.

The Apaches open the season against Canyon Lake at home Monday, Dec. 30, and Seip is looking forward to that game.

"We're ready to play at home. I think we're trying to travel. But, we're ready to go at it. The boys are ready, they seem ready. A lot of seniors, a lot of freshmen kind of mixed in, it's a good group," Seip said.

The Canyon Lake match kicks off at 5 p.m.
