The Gonzales High School softball team held off a late rally to defeat Cuero, 5-4, April 27 in the first of two 4A District 27 tiebreaker games.
With the win, Gonzales advances to face La Vernia today at 7 p.m. in Cuero, with the winner of the game the No. 2 seed, and the loser the No. 3 seed.
Regular district play ended with Navarro in first at 6-0, and a three-way tie remained for second place among Gonzales, La Vernia, and Cuero.
However, the three other teams each finished 2-4, with each team splitting the two district meetings with each other to further complicate the tiebreakers.
With the loss, Cuero will be the No. 4 seed heading into the Bi-District round. In Bi-District, 4A District 27 will face 4A District 28.
District 28's seeds are:
• Fredericksburg: 10-0, 25-6-1
• Boerne: 8-2, 23-6
• Wimberley: 4-6, 7-10
• Canyon Lake: 4-6, 7-16
