Barbara Ann Dreyer passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, September 10, 2021. She was born on August 19, 1935 in Gonzales, Texas to Alva Claude and Mary Edith Adams Bowers. On March 12, 1954, Barbara married the love of her life, Jene Allan Dreyer.

Barbara loved her family and her friends and was in her element when she was entertaining and feeding them. She was well known for her cornbread dressing, enchiladas and pinto beans, homemade apple and chocolate pies, and homemade yeast rolls. At church gatherings, everyone always asked for Barbara’s cornbread dressing. For all family birthdays, she would prepare their favorite meal and dessert.

For fifty plus years, Barbara and Jene were members of a Supper Club that met monthly at a member’s home for dinner and fellowship. They continued to meet until a couple of years ago and then continued the tradition by going out together for a meal.

Barbara was a longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church where she served in many capacities over the years. She spent many hours serving in the kitchen, working in Bible School, and teaching her beloved class of ladies whom she loved dearly. But what was dearest to her heart was working on Operation Christmas Child each year.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jene Dreyer; one son, Jene Allan Dreyer, Jr and wife Sylvia Guerra Dreyer; two daughters, Debbie Soefje and husband Jesse and Joni Leland and husband Bill; grandchildren, Bonnie Smith Wirth and husband Steve, Jaime Smith Goerlitz and husband Dennis, Colton Dreyer and Brianna Hauschildt, Tress Dreyer, Sara Soefje Wagner and husband Patrick; great grandchildren, Grace Newman, Matthew Newman and Caleb Wagner; her sister-in-law Betty Bowers; her caregiver and dear friend, Annette Aguirre; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Mary Bowers; one brother, Earl Bowers; and one sister Edna Ellison.

The family received friends from 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Seydler Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 10 am Wednesday, September 15, 2021 in Eastside Baptist Church with Revs. Robert Ramirez and Hollas Hoffman officiating. Interment followed in Denton Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Colton Dreyer, Tress Dreyer, Grace Newman, Matthew Newman, Steve Wirth, and Dennis Goerlitz. Honorary pallbearers are Jesse Soefje, Bill Leland, Patrick Wagner, Dr. Garth Vaz and the Deacon Body of Eastside Baptist Church. Friends may leave their condolences to the family by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Eastside Baptist Church, Operation Christmas Child, or to Gonzales Healthcare Systems Foundation.

Due to the present uptick in reported Covid-19 illnesses, protective measures regarding social distancing, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, funeral service, and graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
