Posted

The Gonzales Apaches won two of their five games in the Cedar Creek tournament last week, advancing to the third place game before falling to Pflugerville Hendrickson, 70-49, on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Coach Alex Paramski said the team, which is now 5-3 on the season, had big contributions throughout the tourney from Brady Barfield, Angel Martinez, Jeremiah Hastings and Xavier Aguayo.

Third Place Game

Gonzales kept it close in the opening quarter as Hendrickson took a 18-15 lead after the first period. The Apaches did have a lead at 12-10 before an 8-3 run put the Hawks ahead. In the second period, Hendrickson outscored Gonzales, 21-16. The Apaches were able to keep within three points at 27-24 until the Hawks closed out the period with a 12-7 spurt that made the halftime score 39-31 in favor of Hendrickson.

In the third period, Gonzales outscored Hendrickson, 12-11, and closed to within seven at 50-43 on a Xavier Aguayo three-pointer from near half-court at the buzzer. It appeared momentum was on the Apaches’ side, but the Hawks went on a 9-0 run to start the fourth period and would outscore Gonzales, 20-6, in the final 12 minutes to claim the win.
