The new-look Gonzales Apaches basketball team resembles the successful teams of the past as they are using a running, pressing style to their advantage this season.

On Tuesday, Nov. 30, the Apaches improved to 3-0 on the season with a 62-53 home win over the Victoria East Titans in the new gym.

Gonzales started out the game like gangbusters, taking a 20-12 lead after the first period and a 32-21 lead at the break. Victoria East clawed their way back to within two points at the end of the third period, 39-37, and actually took a brief 44-42 lead in the fourth period, but the Apaches found their groove again and went on a 20-9 run to finish out the game with the victory.

Brady Barfield led the Apaches with 19 points, including 14 in the first half.

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the Apaches took to the road and claimed their second win of the year against New Braunfels Pieper Warriors, 50-44.

Angel Martinez lit up the scoreboard and the nets for 20 points, while Brett Breitschopf also hit double figures with 10. Brady Barfield contributed eight points and Jeremiah Hastings had seven for the running Apaches.

Gonzales is scheduled to play in the Cedar Creek tournament beginning Thursday, Dec. 2.
