Bernice Martha Barborak

Bernice Martha Barborak, 85, of Gonzales passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025. She was born September 28, 1939 in Komensky, Texas, the daughter of August and Viola Drozd Cervenka. She married Benedict W. “Ben” Barborak on October 6, 1956 in Moravia, Texas.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. James Catholic Church. She was known as an expert baker, making kolaches, cinnamon rolls, poppy seed rolls and strudel. She was a hard worker, helping her family hay baling by loading and driving. In later years she would watch her son working in the hay fields. She always would go to the pastures to check on the cattle. Bernice and Ben loved to go dancing and listening to polka music, playing cards with friends and an occasional trip to Coushatta gambling. She enjoyed fishing and most of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Ann Janecka and husband Delphin “Buddy”, sons James Alan Barborak and wife Sheryl and Ronald Wayne Barborak; grandchildren Ryan Barborak and wife Luiza, Nolan Barborak and wife Tabitha and Delphin Janecka and wife Heather; great-grandchildren Mackenzie Barborak, Riley Barborak and Fallyn Elaine Janecka. Also surviving are her brother-in-law Rudy Roznovsky and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Frank and Ben Cervenka and sisters Georgie Roznovsky and Edith Filip.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025 at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Raaz officiating. Interment will follow at the Moravia Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Barborak, Nolan Barborak, Delphin Janecka, Bob Proske, Chuck Pavliska and James Filip. Honorary pallbearers include Jerry Pavliska, Randy Proske and Chris Proske.
