Bob O’Neal Sunday, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021 at the seasoned age of 93. Bob was born on his family farm in DeWitt County, Texas and rode to elementary school each day on horseback. After graduating from Yorktown High School, he served in the United States Army during World War II. During his service, he was stationed in Marburg, Germany where he worked in the Adjutant General’s office setting up the occupation troops.

Upon returning from the war, he met his beloved wife, Mary Frances Burke, and they married Sept. 8, 1951 in Gonzales, Texas. Bob later attended Texas A&I on the GI Bill and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. After graduation, he began a successful career in the life insurance and annuity business that spanned more than 60 years. Bob’s success led to him being honored by the Million Dollar Round Table numerous times.

As a part of the Greatest Generation, Bob believed in God, family, and country which he exemplified by serving others well. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and was active on various committees. Bob and Mary were devoted members of their cherished Sojourner’s Sunday School class and enjoyed many Sunday mornings together spending time in God’s Word.

Additionally, Bob was active in many community organizations including Boy Scouts of America, Calvary Episcopal School Board, Fort Bend County Grand Jury, Richmond Rotary, and he was the initial president of the newly formed Rosenberg Little League in 1958. He also served for many years on the Business Industry Advisory Council for his alma-mater, Texas A&I University. However, what brought him the most joy of all was attending the many campouts, baseball games, swim meets, volleyball tournaments, dance recitals, drill team competitions, and art exhibits of his children and grandchildren. He and Mary were always their most ardent supporters.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents: Jesse O’Neal Sunday and Pauline Barkhausen Sunday; and his sisters: Joyce Kubala and Peggy Sunday.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years: Mary; and by their son: Burke Sunday and his wife, Mary Cay; their daughter: Bobbi Treacy and her husband, Bob. He treasured his grandchildren: Megan Sunday Verkin, and her husband, Stevan, Philip Treacy and his wife, Kim, and Claire Treacy. Bob’s special blessings were his great-grandchildren: Mary Claire Treacy and James O’Neal Treacy. He is also survived by close nieces and nephews: Marsha Waits, Patricia Jenkins, and Barry Bond. Bob had many friends from all walks of life, and never met a stranger.

The family would like to thank Betty McClendon, Kendra Schesser, and Faith Minor for their devoted and compassionate care at the end of Bob’s life.
