Carla was a member of First Lutheran Church in Gonzales. She married her high school sweetheart, Freddie Ray Marek, on August 28, 1965. Carla started her career in banking in 1972 where she worked as a teller for Gonzales County Savings and Loan. She later joined Guaranty Bank in Gonzales where she worked until her retirement as Branch Manager in 2002.
Carla & Freddie had many weekend past times which they enjoyed with their daughter Denise, including motorcycle riding, fishing and water skiing while camping at their lake house or at the coast, deer hunting, horseback trail riding and traveling throughout the United States in their motorhome. Together they also enjoyed raising a garden, curing meat in their smokehouse and firing up Freddie’s smoker and entertaining guests at their home. Freddie passed away on August 8, 2007. Since then, Carla spent her time taking care of her many animals on the farm. She enjoyed vacationing with friends and family and perhaps the thing she loved the most was being “Nana” to her two grandsons whom she was very proud of.
