It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father Carlos Portales. Born February 3, 1939, he was 85 at the time of his death.
After graduating a Gonzales HS Apache, he attended Victoria College before continuing his education at the University of Texas Dental School in Houston. He went on to specialize in Oral Surgery and after his residency in New York he joined the Army and served his country while being stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He and his wife Irene then moved to San Antonio, and he continued his career for the next 40+ years. He traveled back and forth to the ranch weekly as it was a place very dear to his heart. It was there that he eventually retired, Irene there with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene, his siblings Joe, Andres, Ofelia, and Rachel.
He is survived by his sister Becky, his daughter Karen and sons Charles with his wife Deb, William, and James. His grandchildren, William, Kenneth, Steven, Tony, Timothy, Noah, and Charlotte. Along with many nieces and nephews.
He was an avid raffle ticket seller, and participated in numerous clubs and charities, including the St Luke's Men's Club, La Sociodad de Los Buenos Companeros, and Parish Council.
Services will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 601 N. Pecan Drive, Moulton, TX 77975, on Monday, September 9. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. and the Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. followed by Military Honors outside the front of The Resurrection Chapel. There will be a reception at the church hall to follow the interment.
Those who wish to make a gift in his memory are asked to donate to the Shriners or St Jude's as these were among his favorite charities.
