Carrizales appointed interim athletic director

Gonzales ISD Girls Athletic Coordinator Joey Carrizales has been appointed the interim athletic director for GISD, Superintendent John Schumacher announced Thursday, Nov. 18.

Carrizales will serve in both capacities during this time. He steps into the athletic director role vacated when Mike Waldie, who also served as head football coach, resigned after three years in the position Wednesday, Nov. 17.

"GISD greatly appreciates Coach Carrizales for taking on this role as the Interim Athletic Director," Schumacher said.

Carrizales is a graduate of Gonzales High School and a long-time native of the Gonzales community.
