Clifton Junus “Jack” Low, 75, of St. Hedwig, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019. Clifton was born July 22, 1943 in Sparta, Wisconsin to Claude Eugene Low and Lunetta DuBose Low. He married Connie Rae Vickers on September 2, 1967 in San Antonio.

At the age of 6 weeks, Clifton moved with his family back to the Saturn Community in Gonzales County. He spent his youth on the family farm doing his part in helping with the chores in raising chickens, milking cows and working in the fields. At age 11, the family moved to Corpus Christi for a short period of time and then returned to the Saturn Community where Clifton continued helping on the farm and attending school in Waelder. He transferred to Gonzales High School his senior year and graduated with the class of 1962. Clifton helped his dad build homes and chicken houses before going to work as a mechanic for Gerloff’s. He later worked for King Motors as a mechanic and later moving to San Antonio where he worked for Tindall Pontiac as a mechanic and eventually service manager. Clifton broke out on his own with Clifton Low Construction which he operated for 28 years and then ending his working career as a safety inspector in the petroleum industry.

Clifton was a hard-working man with an abundance of energy. If he wasn’t working outside the home, he was tending his large garden, fly fishing or hunting Elk or Mule Deer in Montana and Colorado or just hunting doves and hogs at home. He loved the wilderness and often spent time with his family in Yellowstone National Park. Clifton was an adventuress and brilliant man. He was meticulous in his work and folks always sought his help in matters regarding farming, building or mechanical repair.

Clifton is survived by his adoring family, wife, Connie Rae Low of St. Hedwig, mother, Lunetta Low of Gonzales, daughter, Melissa Gayle Johnson of Monterrey, CA, grandson, Devon Johnson of Austin, sisters, Dorothy Jean Polk of Granbury, Betty Lu Vaughan of Gonzales, Patricia Ann Edmiston and husband Jay of Lagarto and Phyllis Kay Low of Gonzales.
