At the regular meeting of the Gonzales County Commissioners Court, provisions for the detainment of juveniles amid COVID-19 were considered and voted on, as well as budget amendments for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

Should the county’s preferred facilities, including the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center in Seguin, not be accepting new additions due to COVID-19 concerns, the county will utilize short-term contracts with the Center for Success and Independence at Rockdale Academy and the Atascosa County Juvenile Justice Center.

Budget amendments considered and approved for the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget include $3,000 allotted to fund the purchase of a new copy machine for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, $4,360 to fund election judges and clerks for the November election, $700 for Rabies Determination and other services, as well as $600 for a vehicle repair for Constable Precinct 1. Another $1,300 was allocated to Capital outlay computer equipment.

Other agenda items which were considered include:

  • Placing a boat ramp for rescue and EMS use at the Guadalupe River Bridge.
  • Exceptions to Gonzales County Subdivision rules in Precincts 1, 2 and 3.
  • Joint election agreements between Gonzales County and the City of Gonzales, Shiner Independent School District, Moulton Independent School District, and Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District ahead of the November 3 election.
