Emergency Management Coordinator Jimmy Harless provided an update regarding the county’s planning of a COVID-19 vaccination clinic to County Commissioners at their meeting Monday, Jan. 25.
Harless said a walkthrough of J.B. Wells was in the works, similar to previous walkthroughs ahead of using the location as a testing site in previous years. He also said the Emergency Management Office had purchased the necessary software to create an appointment-making system for the clinic. If a patient cannot make an appointment online through this system, they may call Emergency Management to do so once enough vaccine is available to host the clinic.
County Judge Patrick C. Davis said that the county was in the process of requesting more vaccines, but being a smaller county, Gonzales is not a priority for vaccine allocation.
The Commissioners also appointed Craig Hines to serve a two-year term for the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service’s Luling Foundation Farm Director. The Extension Service’s Gonzales County Leadership Advisory Board had recommended Hines, Steve Ehrig, and Ken Ginter to the Commissioners, in order of preference.
In order to strengthen the cellular signal in the basement level of the courthouse, the commissioners voted to approve the purchase of a signal booster which amplifies that of carriers Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. This was in addition to Game Warden Dustin Balfanz’s request for an office in the courthouse basement, which was also approved.
