County talks budget at Commissioner's Court

In the Gonzales County Commissioner’s Court session for Monday, July 13, Gonzales County Judge Patrick C. Davis revealed that the upcoming budget for the 2021 fiscal year may include changes to Constable salaries.

Davis said that the budget, which is not yet available to the public, may see the salaries of three Gonzales County Constable positions equalized.

“I tried to take the Constable’s salaries for precincts one, two and three straight across the board to make all of their salaries equal, where they all would be responsible for the same portion,” Davis said. “As of right now we have one person that does the rabies and wild animals, then we have one that does the environment for the whole county. I thought that it would be—since there’s money that’s available there between the two, is to combine those two, spread them out between the three, and let each of them get certified and conduct wild animal and rabies, and the environmental enforcement at that precinct.”

He said that this would better allow for Constables to “cover” for each other in the event that one of them is gone or otherwise unavailable.

Davis also said that the county does not have any debt for the fiscal year of 2020.
