COVID-19 vaccinated population nears 3,000 in county

Gonzales County has been able to up its number of vaccinated residents considerably, following allocations of COVID-19 vaccines which were used to host two clinics on Feb. 24 and March 2.

As of Wednesday, March 3, the Department of State Health Services shows that 2,855 people have received their first COVID-19 vaccination. 1,141 people have been fully vaccinated with both injections. 

Coronavirus cases in Gonzales County according to DSHS data as of Thursday, March 4:

• 32 active cases

• 51 fatalities

• 2,530 recovered cases

• 2,613 total

In Trauma Service Area P, which includes Gonzales County, hospitalizations have dropped to 8.02% of hospital bed capacity. Under Executive Order GA-34, which goes into effect Wednesday, March 10, hospitalizations will no longer be used to determine operation capacity of businesses, and the statewide mask order will be lifted. Saftey measures, including the requirement of face coverings, will be left up to business owners' discretion. 

As of Thursday, March 4 there were 4 active cases of COVID-19 reported in Gonzales Independent School District, one in Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District, and none in Waelder Independent School District.
