Early voting continues through Friday in Nov. 5 election

Early voting for the Nov. 5 general election continues in Gonzales County through this Friday, Nov. 1 at the Randle Rather annex in Gonzales, the Nixon Community Center and Waelder City Hall.

Voting on election day will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at various locations throughout Gonzales County.

As of Monday, Oct. 28, a total of 4,485 of the county’s 13,174 voters, or 34.04 percent, had cast their ballots by in-person or mail early voting. That includes 4,266 people in person and 219 votes by mail.

For the state of Texas, a total of 6,208,030 voters have cast their ballots either in person or by mail early, or almost exactly one third (33.33 percent) of the state’s 18,623,931 registered voters. A total of 5,927,485 people voted in person, while 280,545 have voted by mail.

The sole contested local race on the ballot is for Sheriff between incumbent Keith Schmidt, the GOP candidate, and Democrat Clay Allen. Yoakum ISD also has a voter approved tax rate election on the ballot.

The biggest federal races on the ballot include President/Vice President between the Trump/Vance ticket and the Harris/Walz ticket, the Senate race between Ted Cruz and Colin Allred, and the House District 27 race between Michael Cloud and Tanya Lloyd. The biggest state race on the ballot besides the Texas Supreme Court and Court of Criminal Appeals is the Texas House District 44 race between Alan Schoolcraft and Eric Norman.
