In Memory of Eloiza G Lopez

Eloiza G. Lopez, 92 of Gonzales passed away May 24, 2022. Eloiza was born August 24th, 1929 in Gonzales Texas to Feliciano and Victoria Lopez.

Eloiza grew up in Gonzales along with seven brothers and sisters. She grew up during the great depression and she and her siblings all worked hard to ensure the family would survive and prosper. Eloiza attended the Riverside School located at Water and St. Lawrence Streets. Over the years, she worked at Gonzales Food Market and also managed the old May Hotel on St. Lawrence Street for a time, however the majority of her life, she was a homemaker. During the 1980’s, Eloiza was very active with civic causes in Gonzales. She initiated successful litigation with two important issues in the Gonzales Community. In one case, the City of Gonzales was required to select city council members by district rather than at large. In the other case, she helped make it possible for the Gonzales school district to include board members of different ethnicities.

Eloiza was a wonderful mother, always making sure that her two boys (Rene and Rudy) always had what they needed for school and other activities. She especially loved to have her two grandchildren (Gabriel and Nicolas) come spend weekends with her and Rene where they did all sorts of crafts and other fun activities. The boys not only had fun, but learned some valuable life lessons and skills. During summer evenings, she would love to sit on the front porch and tell stories to Gabriel and Nicolas. For her enjoyment, she loved to watch and feed birds during her free time and watch her favorite westerns such as Bonanza and Gunsmoke on the TV Land network.

Eloiza is survived by her adoring sons, Rudy Garza (Robin) of Austin and Rene Garza of Gonzales, grandchildren, Dr. Gabriel Garza (Waleska) of Austin and Dr. Nicolas Garza of Lubbock, TX., great-grandchildren, Katelyn Garza and Liam Garza, her brother Pete Lopez of Gonzales, and many nieces and nephews. Eloiza is preceded in death by her parents Victoria and Feliciano Lopez, brother Pablo Lopez, sisters, Maria Galindo, Elisa and Emily Lopez, and Magdalena Flores.
