Emma Belle “Mickey” Smith

Emma Belle “Mickey” Smith was called home to be with her Lord and savior on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at the age of 99. She was born in Freeport, Texas on September 24, 1922. At a young age, her family moved to Houston. Mickey graduated from Milby High School and attended Massy Business College to obtain a degree in bookkeeping and accounting. She married Wesley Smith in 1947.

Mickey worked for several different business companies. Later, she attended nursing school, her true passion. As a nurse, she worked in the Spring Branch Hospital, were she spent her time in the recovery room and ICU. 

After 37 years of working in all the many fields of public work and nursing, she retired. With retirement, Mickey became a homemaker and helpmate to her husband on their farm near Harwood, raising cattle and baling hay. 

Mickey is survived by her daughter, Deborah Slater and husband Jim, granddaughter, Holly Cain and husband Matthew, grandson, James W. Slater and wife Alarie, great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Wesley, and Olivia Slater, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, John, Frank, and Fred Touchstone, and sister, Anna Mae Touchstone. 

A visitation was held on Monday, October 25, 2021, from 5 until 7 PM in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service took place on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at 2 PM in the Stockdale Cemetery.
