For the 42nd year, guacamole lovers will descend on Waelder this Labor Day weekend for the festival named for everyone’s favorite chip dip.

Fiesta Guacamole returns to Waelder City Park on Saturday, Aug. 31. Gates open for the Saint Patrick Catholic Church sponsored event at 9 a.m. Tickets are $4 before 7 p.m. and $8 after that time. Kids under 12 get in free.

Among the events planned are a volleyball tournament and a soccer tournament for kids 7 to 12 years old. A parade starts at 10 a.m., bingo at 1:30 p.m. and an auction followed by a raffle begins at 6 p.m.

The festival’s namesake event, the guacamole mash, is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m. The food menu includes gorditas, tamales, hamburgers, fajitas and aguas frescas.

The queen coronation is set to begin at 8 p.m. The festival will feature DJs during the day and live Tejano music in the evening.
