Floyd (Punk) Richmond Rogers, Jr. passed away at his home on March 22, 2023, in Gonzales TX, with his wife and two daughters by his side. He was born at the old Brackenridge Hospital on January 7, 1931, in Austin TX, to Floyd Richmond Rogers, Sr. and Cleo Belle Guthrie Rogers.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his infant daughter Margaret Katherine, his daughter Lisa Marie Rogers Caperton, his brother Thomas P. Rogers, his sister-in-law Jo Ellen Rogers, his brother-in-law Dale Ray Roper, and his grandson Matthew Neal Kurtz. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Anita Jo Roper Rogers, his daughters Lynda Ann Rogers and Tina Jo Rogers Kurtz, his son-in-law Gary G. Kurtz, his sister-in-law Sheila Roper, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Punk attended Metz Elementary and Allen Jr. High in Austin TX. He graduated from Austin High School in 1949. While at Austin High, he played football and ran track. Austin High won the state track meet in 1948. Punk won the 100-yard dash, and at that time set a new state record. He was also a member of the winning record-setting 440-yard relay. After graduation he entered the University of Texas at Austin on a track scholarship. He ran track at Texas for four years and is a member of the T Association.

Punk married his high school sweetheart Anita Jo on September 8, 1951. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1953, he began his teaching and coaching career in Weimar TX. After one year in Weimar, he was offered the head coaching job in Bertram TX. Two years later he was offered the head coaching position at the new Del Valle High School in Austin TX. In 1959 he accepted a teaching and coaching position at the Austin ISD new Johnston High School as an assistant football coach and head track/cross-country coach.

In 1964, Floyd, Anita, and their three daughters moved to Corpus Christi TX to join the staff at Carroll High School, where he was a biology teacher, assistant football coach, and head track/cross-country coach. In 1980 he left football and track to become the head golf coach, a sport he loved all his life. Many hours were spent with family, friends, and students on golf courses. He became the first coach in Corpus Christi ISD to win district championships in six different sports: Boys and Girls track, Boys and Girls golf, and Boys and Girls cross-country. He was inducted into the Coastal Bend Coaching Association Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Carroll High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. His coaching career spanned 47 years, but his love of coaching and teaching never ended.

In 2000 Floyd and Anita retired to five acres on the Guadalupe River in Gonzales TX, where he used his skills to build whatever Anita asked, mow grass, pick pecans, walk his dogs, and play golf four days a week. They are members of the First Baptist Church in Gonzales, where he sang joyously in the choir and with the Glory Bound Singers.

Punk was a great storyteller and had the gift of making people laugh. He loved his family dearly. He also loved his friends, athletes, and students. Per his wishes, there will be no service or memorial. He will be cremated, and there will be a gathering for family at a date and place to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gonzales Dog Adoptions, PO Box 192, Gonzales, Texas, 78629, in memory of Floyd Rogers; or to a charity of your choice.
