Posted

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs learned some lessons on the road with a hard-fought 25-12 loss at Three Rivers on Friday, Sept. 3.

The Mustangs managed to put together 211 yards rushing, but could only muster 22 yards passing in a tough night for Nixon-Smiley, which fell to 1-1 on the young season.

Bradyn Martinez led all Mustang rushers with 15 carries for 102 yards, including a 65-yard jaunt, and one touchdown. For the season, Martinez has gained 245 yards on 23 carries with three touchdowns, an average of 122.5 yards per game.

Dario Jantes toted the rock 15 times for 61 yards while George Rodriguez had five carries for 34 yards. Jason Adams carried the ball three times for five yards and quarterback Luke Moses had nine yards on two carries.

Moses was just two of eight passing the ball, but one of those was a TD pass to Martinez, who caught both of Moses’ tosses for 22 yards and the one score. For the year, Moses is five of 16 for 77 yards, 1 TD and one interception.

Nixon-Smiley returns home this Friday, Sept. 10, at 7:30 p.m. to host Hallettsville Sacred Heart in a non-district tussle.
