GEDC, Workforce Solutions to host Career Fair

The Gonzales Economic Development Corporation (GEDC) along with Workforce Solutions Golden Crescent are recruiting companies to exhibit at the Spring Career Fair scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 8, at Gonzales High School.

The Career Fair gives students and employers a chance to meet one another, establish professional relationships and discuss the skills needed for a potential jobs or internships. There is space to accommodate 50 employers and youth service providers. There is no charge. We anticipate 320 students will participate.  For safety reasons, this job fair is not open to the public.

Employers will be provided a table and two chairs. They are encouraged to bring a tablecloth and/or backdrop with the company logo, brochures, flyers and business cards along with a list of positions they are currently recruiting. We have learned from past events that students love company swag and candy. Space outside of the gym will also be available if a company would like to bring a vehicle or piece of equipment.

According to GEDC director, Jennifer Kolbe, “Our goal is to attract diverse companies that create jobs in target industries including finance, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation, education, government, and the building trades. We want to make sure GISD students know there are good jobs in Gonzales and in our region.

“There is no reason to leave the community if a student wants to stay local. They can find good paying jobs and gain skills here in Gonzales through the Victoria College Gonzales Campus. We also welcome all branches of the military knowing that service in the military is a great career pathway especially for students who might not have the resources to pay for college or still not sure what career is best suited for them.”

Before the event, employers should post their job postings on WorkInTexas.com, especially if they want to attract students that will be participating in the TWC Summer Earn and Learn programs which will be launching soon. If you need assistance using WorkInTexas.com, please contact Business Services Representative, Chris Perez at 361-578-0341.

Students should dress professionally and bring a copy of a resume. We encourage all students to visit their campus college and career coordinator and ask for help developing a resume. Many students may not have job experience but have gained skills through babysitting, school clubs such as band, athletics, or extracurricular activities. The career fair is their time to shine and give recruiters examples of times when they have excelled in or outside the classroom.
