The Gonzales Independent School District Board of Trustees will discuss redistricting at their regular monthly meeting, which will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at Administration office Library, located at 1615 Saint Louis Street.

One item on the agenda is for the board to discuss and consider action on approving a Redistricting Advisory Committee. It is believed that having a Redistricting Citizens Advisory Committee to assist in the revision of political boundaries “would serve the public interest and facilitate greater participation by the public in the vital processes of democracy,” according to the agenda for Monday’s meeting.

All actions by the board would have to be taken in conjunction with the Texas Constitution and chapter 42 of the Texas Election Code.

Board members will also consider legally adopting rules of procedure and decorum for any possible redistricting. Legal counsel has advised the baord to “consider the adoption of such rules before any public hearing on redistricting. These matters are typically conducted without any discord, but on occasion, rules adopted well before the redistricting workshops or public hearings can be helpful.”

Other items of interest include possible nominations to serve on the Gonzales and Caldwell appraisal districts.
