The Gonzales Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the cessation of temperature checks at student drop off at a special board meeting Wednesday, April 28, according to a statement shared on the district's Facebook page.

The checks had been in place since the first day of the school year, with students being scanned three times daily. It is unclear if the district is this performing mid and end-of-day temperature checks.

Here is the statement shared by the district:

"Gonzales ISD Board of Trustees, at a Special Board meeting held on April 28th, approved the removal of required temperature checks at the time of student drop-off. However, face coverings will still be required while inside GISD facilities when social distancing is not possible.
Gonzales ISD cares about the safety and well-being of all students and staff. Parents are asked to continue to ensure that students with COVID-19 symptoms are kept home and perform temperature checks, as needed."
