After no new cases on Tuesday, Gonzales County is reporting eight new cases of COVID-19, according to a report from County Judge Patrick C. Davis.

Data from the Texas Department of State Health Service shows Gonzales County has experienced a consistent rise in cases of coronavirus since the first cases were reported in late March. The reported number of cases peaked at 36 on July 2, with the last of the county’s four fatalities being reported on June 11.

These new cases bring the total reported number of COVID-19 cases to 372. Currently, there are 120 active cases of coronavirus in Gonzales County.

Those who may be more susceptible and in the “high risk” category are especially encouraged to remain at home as often as possible by health authorities such as DSHS and the CDC. All Texans are required to wear a mask in public due to the executive order issued by Gov. Greg Abbott, although the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office has stated that they will not be enforcing the wearing of masks.

Other advice from the CDC intended to stop the spread of COVID-19 include frequent hand washing, avoiding close contact, frequent cleaning of any surfaces which may have become contaminated, and avoiding non-essential travel.
