Gonzales falls to powerhouse El Campo, 56-34

The Gonzales High School Apaches found themselves in an early 21-0 hole against the El Campo Ricebirds on Friday night. But, taking advantage of six Ricebirds turnovers, the Apaches nearly played the 4A-title favorite even the rest of the way in a 56-34 loss. 

Highlights included a 98-yard kickoff return touchdown by Derrick Garza and three scores by Cesar Matamoras, including a 5-yard score off a fumble recovery. Breck Eleby led the Apaches with 18 carries for 105 yards.
