Gonzales ISD has named Veronica Gallegos Johannsen the new Chief of Communications, Marketing, and Safety and Security. Johannsen has a proven track record of moving a district forward from tactical to strategic while serving as a leader in education and has played a key role in communicating school safety initiatives and responses.

Johannsen, a former bilingual TV journalist and local government communications professional, has spent the last several years in school administration. She has experience in school PR, crisis communications, school safety, and community engagement. Veronica previously served as a communications director in San Antonio, director of communications and marketing and special projects at Brenham ISD, and executive director of communications and marketing at Corsicana ISD before joining Gonzales ISD.

"Veronica Johannsen brings a wealth of knowledge from her time in other educational institutions, and we are confident that she will continue to help us grow and thrive," said Dr. Elmer Avellaneda, Gonzales ISD Superintendent. "We believe that Mrs. Johannsen's attention to detail and strategic approach will allow her to lead effectively and efficiently, and she has proven capable of that in her previous roles."

Growing up a first-generation high school and college graduate, Veronica has made it her mission to work within education. "This role is very personal to me as I know firsthand the power that education has in changing someone's life. I believe that all children no matter what zip code or demographic they belong to — all children deserve the opportunity to have the tools to learn, thrive, and grow."

During her free time, Veronica enjoys spending time with her family, her dog Horchata and church. She loves learning new skills, traveling, and checking out new restaurants.
