Gonzales ISD board selects superintendent search firm

GONZALES — After two special-called meetings the past seven days, the Gonzales ISD board of trustees began the process of finding their new superintendent by hiring the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) as their superintendent search firm.

The board first discussed possible options in a special-called meeting last Thursday, March 14 between five different firms. Trustees settled on two firms, TASB or JG Consulting, before accepting TASB’s $7,500 offer, “if JG Consulting does not match their price. If they do match the price, then we would meet on Tuesday to further vet the two candidates,” according to the motion made.

On Tuesday, the school board met again to finalize their selection of a superintendent search firm. The board discussed details in a closed session that lasted about 30 minutes. When the meeting opened, a motion was made to hire JG Consulting. District 1 trustee Gloria Torres, Josie Smith-Wright (District 4) and Justin Schwausch (District 2) voted for JG Consulting while Glenn Menking (District 3), Ross Hendershot III (District 5), Sue Gottwald (District 6) and Sandra Gorden (District 7) voted against. The motion to hire JG Consulting failed.

The next motion to hire TASB passed 4-3, with Menking, Hendershot III, Gottwald and Gorden voting for and Torres, Smith-Wright and Schwausch voting against.

No contract details were discussed.

The Inquirer reached out to Gonzales ISD Tuesday evening on contract details, including how much TASB will cost the district. No details have been disclosed as of press time.
