Hall of Fame Apache to have jersey retired

The Gonzales boys basketball team will be retiring the jersey of alum Dennis Tealer this Friday, Jan. 10 at the gym following the girls varsity basketball game.

Tealer was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame on May 18, 2019. Of the many accomplishments, Tealer was part of the 1974 state championship team, averaged 18 points per game his sophomore season and 24 as a junior. His senior year, Tealer averaged 29.4 points per game and 18 rebounds per game. Tealer scored 41 points in the semifinals of the 1974 state tournament and 37 points in the finals. The 41 points are the most scored in an individual game in Conference 4A (then 3A) while his 78 total points are the most in a two-game series in 4A.

The ceremony will take place following the Lady Apaches varsity game, expected to end near 7:30 p.m.
