Mike Hanson of Gonzales recently was voted in as the new CEO of the Wolff Motel by its board members.

Hanson’s grandfather, Harold Wolff, built the first two main buildings at the Wolff Motel, 1020 Henry St, Gonzales, more than 50 years ago. He had started a carpentry and rent house business in 1947 when he returned from World War II. At the time the Wolff Motel opened, a two-bedroom apartment was just $75 per month.

Hanson said the property has changed hands several times since Harold Wolff’s death in 2003. This will be Hanson’s third time serving as CEO in the last 20 years.

“I am very, very honored once again to have a chance to bring this property back to profitability, thank you and God bless,” Hanson said.

Hanson said he hopes everybody in town sees him as a “very fair person,” but added that all the motels guests must pay their fair share in rent as the owners “need to keep the lights on, cable, internet, insurance, property taxes and managers/maintenance paid,” Hanson said.

Hanson said his specialty is to take “non-producing properties and make them profitable.”
