Hermina “Minnie” Mendez Morataya was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world suddenly on March 29, 2021 at age 79. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nixon, TX.  She was born to Valentine and Francisca Mireles Mendez on February 12, 1942 in Gillett, TX. She married Fredis Morataya September 9, 1991 in Nixon, TX and together they shared a beautiful life full of love and laughter.

She loved spending time in the kitchen, cooking meals for her family or just sitting at the table conversing over a cup of coffee and some sweet bread. She loved her chickens, her cattle, her cat Palomita and the peacefulness of living out on the family ranch.

Minnie cared deeply for her family, she loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren fiercely. She was the matriarch of the family and no words could ever say how much she will be missed.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 30 years Fredis of Leesville, TX. Daughters Rosa (Henry) Garcia of Albany, TX, Hope Bowden of New Braunfels, TX, Susie (Ralph) Hanson of Cibolo, TX, Tammy (Gus) Cantu of Schertz, TX, and Erma (Juan) Ramos of Gonzales, TX. Sons, Fidel (Donna) Ramos of Luling, TX, Manuel (Janie) Ramos of Plainview, TX, Romaldo (Margarita) Ramos of Nixon, TX, Valentine Ramos of Nixon, TX, Domingo Ramos Jr. of Nixon, TX, Nicholas (Carrie) Ramos of Tulia, TX, Joe Ramos Jr. of Nixon, TX and Jonathan Ramos of Nixon, TX. 41 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Sisters, Janie DeLeon of Nixon, TX, Cepherina Ramirez of Seguin, TX, Loisa Mendez of McQueeney, TX and Trina Mendez of Nixon, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Joe Luis Ramos Sr.; brothers, Juan Mendez and Thomas Mendez and sisters, Elida Perez and Estefana Pena.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, April 5 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. following the visitation. A Life Celebration Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6 in St. James Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the family’s private cemetery on their ranch, Paloma Blanca Morataya Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her sons, Fidel Ramos, Manuel Ramos, Romaldo Ramos, Nicholas Ramos, Joe Ramos Jr., and Jonathan Ramos. Honorary Pallbearers are her grandchildren. Seydler-Hill Funeral Home will continue to require all attendants to take protective measures regarding social distancing, usage of hand sanitizers and wearing personal protective masks for the visitation, rosary, church service, and the graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
