Herminia Longoria Castillo

Herminia L. Castillo, 70, of Gonzales, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021.  She was born Sept. 10, 1950 in Gonzales the daughter of Jose and Emma Ruiz Longoria.

She was known as an excellent cook and had worked at the Alcalde Hotel for many years. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching westerns and was quite the pool player and played in many tournaments. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed making people laugh. Most of all she treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters, Evett Ruiz and husband Mario, Joann De La Garza and Ericka Hernandez all of San Antonio; sons, David De La Garza and wife Jennifer of Del Valle and Daniel De La Garza and wife Margaret of La Junta, Colorado; sisters, Tomasa “Tommie” Martinez of Kenedy, Janie Vigil of Amarillo, Tina Longoria of San Antonio, Emma Ojeda of Lockhart; brothers Simon Longoria of Seabrook and Matilde Longoria of Amarillo. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jose Longoria Jr., Serapio Longoria and John Longoria.

Visitation will be from5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 with the Rosary following at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 at St. James Catholic Church with Reverend Jason Martini officiating. Interment will follow at the Gonzales Memorial Park Cemetery.

Due to current CDC, State and local mandates, protective measures regarding social distancing, limited attendance capacity, and use of personal protective masks will be required for the visitation, chapel service and graveside burial rite. Those remotely symptomatic of COVID-19 are politely asked not to attend. Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
