Horace Eugene Mercer

On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, The Lord called Horace Eugene Mercer home. Horace was born July 13, 1937 to William Franklin Mercer and Myrtle Ollie. He was the youngest of his 12 siblings. As a young man Horace enjoyed fishing, hunting, and riding horses while working cattle on the family farm.

He graduated Gonzales High School in 1956 and married Sylvia Pivoda of Luling in June of 1956. They were married for 65 years. Together they had two children Gene and Rhonda.

Horace loved his family and friends deeply; he was a hardworking man with a heart as big as the Texas sky.

Horace and Sylvia opened Mercer Implement off highway 90A and worked together till he renewed his CDL career, driving for Graham Cattle Co. until he retired at the age of 75.

After retirement Horace enjoyed watching purple martins on the front porch swing with his beautiful wife, watching re-runs of Gunsmoke and endless amounts of Fox News.

Survivors include by his beloved wife, Sylvia, son, Gene and his wife Vicki of New Braunfels, grandchildren, Elizabeth Cook and Taylor and Heath Mercer, and great-grandchildren, Aiden and Andrew Cook. Horace is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Rhonda Cook, granddaughter, Erica, and half-brother. Carl Acker.

Services were held at the Eastside Baptist Church at 10 a.
m. Saturday, August 28, 2021, with Pastor Robert Ramirez officiating. Friends may leave their condolences to the family by visiting, www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made out to the East Side Baptist Church. Seydler-Hill Funeral Home was honored to assist in the funeral arrangements.
