Irene Reyes Chavarria


Irene Reyes Chavarria, 84, of Gonzales, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022. Irene was born October 4, 1937 in Gonzales County to Apolonio and Rosa Amaro Reyes. She married Thomas Chavarria, Sr. on April 7, 1957 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. 

Irene was born and raised in Gonzales County. Her family were migrant workers, and she went to work at young age to help support the family. After marrying she was a housewife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and caring for her family. She relished time spent working on word puzzles and enjoyed shopping and watching scary movies. Irene loved her family and delighted in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Grandma” was always there for assuring hugs and welcoming smiles. Irene led her family in her Catholic faith and earnestly prayed her rosary daily.  

Irene is survived by her loving family; daughters, Diana Gaytan, Nancy Rocha (Silverio), Doris Valle (Jesus, Jr) all of Gonzales, sister, Natalia Rios of Hallettsville, brother, Johnny Reyes of Gonzales, 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Norma Jean Chavarria, sons, Tommy Chavarria, Jr, and Carlos Chavarria, sister, Rosa Magallanez, brothers, Eusebio, Benny, Apolonio, Jr, and Robert Reyes, and great-great grandson, Hudson Nowotny.

The family will receive friends from 9 am to 9:30 am Thursday, August 4, 2022 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church a Holy Rosary being recited at 9:30 am in the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am in Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Jason Martini officiating. Interment will follow in the Gonzales Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jesus Orduna, Joshua Esparza, Jeremy Rocha, Robert Corona, Michael Sirildo, Sr, C.J. Chavarria, Dustin Valle, and Jesus Valle, III. Honorary pallbearers: David Gayton and Juan Gayton, Jr. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Friends may leave their condolences to the family by visiting Services are under the care and direction of Seydler-Hill Funeral Home.
