Joe Wesley Heins, 76, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2022.  Joe was a loving husband to Pat Heins for 43 years, a father to his three sons and one stepson, and “Po-Po” to his eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Joe was born at home in Gonzales on October 11, 1945, to George Heins, Sr. and Lillie Shrader Heins.  Joe graduated from Gonzales High School in 1964 and joined the National Guard in his senior year.  Joe was employed with the Texas Department of Highways for 36 years until his retirement.

After his retirement, Joe enjoyed gardening and spending his time in the country working with his cows and shredding the dreaded huisache.  When Joe wasn’t in the country, he loved being with his family, especially the grandchildren who loved climbing in Po-Po’s lap.  Joe also enjoyed traveling with Pat and friends, exploring the roads and highways, having lots of good times and laughter along the way.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Walter Heins, and his great-granddaughter, Addie Rae Bolech.  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Raindl Heins, his brothers George Heins, Jr, and James Heins, his sons, Joe (Jenny) Heins Jr., Jeff (Vivi) Heins, Michael (Bridget) Heins, and Steven (Karen) Bolech, along with his grandchildren, Stephanie (Cody) Scaff, Tiffany (Eric) Pennington, Wesley (Katie) Bolech, Haleigh Heins, Becca (Tyler) Cox,  Ashley (Taylor) Hawkins, Michelle Heins, Mikey Heins, Olivia Heins, Craig (Holly) Yates and Matthew Yates, great-grandchildren, Brynleigh and Cannon Scaff, Riley, Ellie and Bexley Bolech, T.J.
