John Everett Johnson Sr.

John Everett Johnson, Sr.  of New Braunfels passed away Monday, September 26, 2022.  He was born on October 7, 1934 in Fayette County, Texas the son of Andrew Clinton Johnson and Ollie Francis Bertling Johnson.  He married Angela Jane Darilek on November 19, 1955 in St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales, a marriage that was blessed with nearly 67 years of happiness.

Early in his life, John hauled steel for jails with Southern Steel.  Then he worked at the Handy Andy warehouse where he became a forklift mechanic.  After Handy Andy closed, he worked for Pace Picante as a forklift mechanic until he retired.  He enjoyed tinkering outside and could build just about anything you needed, from a horse-drawn wagon, garages, sheds, porches, and furniture. He liked to grow gardens, cook BBQ, and he even made wine a few times.  He had just about every type of farm animal on his little acreage in Adkins. He enjoyed hunting and fishing until his disability made it too difficult to get around in the woods.

He is survived by his wife Angela, sons Johnny Johnson, Jr (Mary), Bruce Wayne Johnson (Zeynep), grandchildren Brittney Loiseau, Arda Johnson, and 3 great grandchildren, sister Della Hearn (Jim), numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Clinton Ray Johnson, Charles Floyd Johnson, Wallace Lynn Johnson, sisters Sadie Mae Johnson, Dora Vajdos, Doris Johnson, and Jo Ann Kuntschik.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 pm Sunday, October 2, 2022 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary being recited at 5 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am Monday, October 3, 2022 in St. James Catholic Church with Fr. Jason Martini officiating. Interment will follow in Denton Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers: Donnie and Gavin Hearn, Brian and Kenneth Kuntschik, Greg Kuntschik, Jimmy Tuma.
