John Winston Rawls, Sr.

John Winston Rawls, Sr.,89, of Nixon, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022.  He was born December 26, 1932 in Pelly, Texas the son of John Weldon Rawls and Nana Mae Olive.  He worked for 36 years with H,L & P as an electrician and later as the maintenance planner.  After retirement he worked helping on his sons ranch.  He enjoyed deer hunting in west Texas, going to the Colorado mountains and fishing.

He is survived by his daughters Marilyn Sparks and husband Ronnie of Adkins, TX and Clara R. Lester of Gonzales; son John Winston Rawls, Jr. and wife Esther of Nixon; grandchildren Heather Spengler, who was raised as a daughter, and her husband Lance, Vanna Lester, Ross Lester, Ashley Rawls, Katheren Rawls and John Rawls; great-grandchildren John Anthony Rawls, Mitch Spengler and Cole Spengler; sister Regina M. Hardin and husband Douglas of Conroe; sisters-in-law Geraldine Rawls of Gonzales and Carol Smith of Amarillo.

He was preceded by his parents, wife Marie, daughter Jacqueline Rawls, brothers Wayne and Charles Rawls and grandchildren Jaqueline Oliphant and Eddie Oliphant.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at the Pilgrim Church with Russell Riggs officiating.  Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at the church.  Interment will follow at the Pilgrim cemetery.
