He is survived by two sons, Jose Alejo Guardiola, and Jonathan Angel Guardiola, and one daughter Amada Esperanza Guardiola, all of Devine; His mom, Maria Esquivel (Cristo); Sisters, Ana Guardiola-Villanueva (J. Dolores), Janie Gutierrez (Miguel C.), Patricia Parks, Elizabeth Rodriguez (Robert);Brothers, Jessie Guardiola and  Jose Juarez; Numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Preceded in death by his grandmother Juanita de Juarez and step-dad Cornelio Juarez.

Jose was a devoted family man. He earned an Associate's Degree in Automotive Repair from Laredo Community College. He loved working as a mechanic, but went to work for Southwestern Bell/AT&T in 1999 after his first son was born to better provide for his growing family. Jose started as a technician, but within a few years became a manager. You could always find him “in the trenches”— literally and figuratively– with the technicians who worked under him. He always said he wanted to learn everything he could, so he could help others better.  According to some of his crew, “He was always eager to help, eager to put on his belt and tools anytime he could. Jose was the boss you wanted to have. He always took care of us. He would make special trips to local stores to get us the supplies we needed when they didn’t have them in our catalogs.” Jose never asked them to do anything he wouldn’t or hadn’t done himself. His co-workers say they will miss his smile and his commitment to success.

Jose was a hard-working man who loved God and his family. He was always helping people whenever he could; whether it be jump starting a car, fixing machinery, or building sheds, it seemed there was nothing he couldn’t do. His children were his pride and joy, there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. You could often find him in the Band Booster Grill Stand on Thursday and Friday nights. He was at every marching and drama competition, often times chaperoning on a bus, or even just fixing little things from wheels on wagons, to loose parts in shak-os. Jose also helped in his church community of St. Joseph doing little things, behind the scenes. He always enjoyed helping at the St. Joseph Festival, the 5K, and the Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

Next to his family, Jose loved working with his hands, building shelves, fixing lawnmowers, or working on his family’s cars. He also loved fishing, working in the yard, and just being outdoors in general He was not one to be idle. His plants were one of his great joys and he was constantly challenging his skills with different plants. People often commented how much they enjoyed seeing his sunflowers in the front yard. He had been hoping to try his hand at bluebonnets this year.

His passing came as a shock to all who knew and loved him. He was a man of few words, but always knew how to make people smile; he himself had a warm, kind smile. His smile and a mischievous twinkle in his eyes could be seen whenever he was with the people he loved most. He gave the best bear hugs. You could feel his presence whenever he walked into a room. His warmth, kindness, and his heart to serve will be greatly missed.
