Joseph "Joey" Robert Ficken, of Flatonia passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022.  Joey was born January 20, 1988 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Martin and Shari Ficken.

Though Joey was born in North Carolina, he spent most of his formative years in Bennet, Nebraska.  Whether one considered it a good thing or not, he celebrated his birthday every four years with the inauguration of a new president. Joey graduated from Iowa State University with a dual degree in Marketing and Psychology. He worked in retail, food services, and transportation services, but found his greatest joy in making people laugh.  His skill as a stand-up comedian led to multiple bookings, a tour, and even his own album, “That Wind Has Been Blowing for Years."

A stranger to no one, Joey had the ability to create an instant connection with anyone who had the privilege of crossing his path.  His family will remember him as a lover of all animals, especially cats.  Joey celebrated his first Father's Day with his kitten Ramona in 2021.  Joey is survived by his parents, Martin and Shari Ficken; his sister, Casi Ficken Castellano; and his brother Martin Jr. and his wife Kirby.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm Monday, February 7, 2022 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 10 am in Faith Family Church with Pastor Forrest Hamilton officiating.  Interment will follow in Gonzales Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Martin Ficken, Marty Ficken, John Keuten, Jory Keuten, Don Payne, and Devin DeLeon.  Memorials may be made to: Friends of Gonzales Animal Shelter, 505 St Francis St, Gonzales, TX 78629 or an animal shelter of one’s choice.
