Josephine Herrera, 97 of Gonzales, passed away to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, where she was surrounded by her family until her last moment on this earth. She was born on March 17, 1927, to Felicita Montemayor Gonzales and Antonio Gonzales. Born and raised here in Gonzales County, she attended school here and also met the love of her life.

She married Juan “John” Herrera on November 15, 1941, they loved each other unconditionally and together they raised their 7 children. Josephine shared 77 years of marriage with John until his passing in 2018.

Josephine had it in her heart to help others, she worked in the hospital kitchen and also at the nursing home, always serving others with compassion. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she always shared with her family  about the power of prayer and about the love she had for the Lord.

Upon her many travels, she favored her trip to Europe, where she visited her daughter who was living overseas. She visited Germany and was exceptionally proud of her trip to Italy when she saw the Vatican. If you called to invite her to stay with you, she made her travelling plans to see you. She enjoyed her visits to see her sister in Arizona and California, and also the many short drives to San Antonio to visit friends.

Josephine was a great cook, and fed her family with meals they will always remember, especially her thanksgiving dressing. She comforted her grandchildren with love and she leaves them with many fond stories and memories. They remember her watching her favorite shows like “Murder, She Wrote” and watching old western movies. Her life was spent well on adventure and loving others as long as she could. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
