J.U. “Jay” Dedear

J.U. “Jay” Dedear, age 83 of Burnet, passed away on Oct. 17, 2020. Jay was born on Dec. 12, 1936 in Bebe, TX to Steve and Ida Dedear.

Jay was a confirmed member of the Monthalia Methodist Church. After graduating Gonzales High School in 1955, he attended Texas A&M University. There he was a proud member of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets. He later graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1958.

In 1956, he married his high school sweetheart Melene Lindemann. Jay proudly served in the US Army at Fort Knox, KY and Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Jay began his career with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Cotton Classing office in Austin, TX. It was during this time he spent fall seasons in West Texas, a temporary assignment in Washington DC, Galveston, Austin and Waco, TX. He retired in 1994 from the USDA Waco Classing office.

In March 1994, Jay and Melene retired to Delaware Springs in Burnet, TX. It was here that they enjoyed playing golf and meeting new friends. They enjoyed quick trips to Oklahoma and Louisiana for relaxation. There were several trips made with friends to different locations around the US. They were members of the Burnet First United Methodist Church.

His parents; Steve and Ida Dedear, his sisters; Louise Rossow and Anita Czech, granddaughter; Ashley Dedear and mother-in-law; Esther Lindemann and father-in-law ;Elmer Lindemann, precede Jay in death.

His wife of 64 years, Melene Dedear, two sons; Steven Dedear and fiancé Bonnie Gilliam and Timothy Dedear and wife Cindy, grandchildren; Laura Dedear and Logan Clements, Riley Dedear, Reese Dedear and Katherine Dedear, sisters; Ruby Flowers and Barbara Owen, one brother; Jimmy Dedear, sister-in-law Jean Hanzalik, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, survive Jay.

A private visitation will be held for immediate family on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2020 at 5 p.m. at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. A memorial service will be held Thursday Oct. 21, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Burnet First United Methodist Church with Jason Teague officiating, concluding with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Monthalia Methodist Cemetery with Paul Smith officiating. All CDC guidelines will be followed. In lieu of flowers, donate to the American Cancer Society, the National Kidney Foundation or the charity of your choice.Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet made arrangements.
