Juana G. Alvarez

Juana G. Alvarez, 92, of Waelder, passed on Monday, June 27, 2022.  Juana was born April 19, 1930 in Waelder, Texas to Ascencion and Tomasa Gonzalez.  Juana was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Waelder and was an active member of the Guadalupana Society.

Juana married Ciriaco Alvarez. Their married life was blessed with three children. She raised her children while at the same time she and her husband were migrant workers tending to cotton fields across Texas.  Soon Juana began work at the local Eureste Grocery Store owned by Felipe Eureste and later owned by Dan and Martha Eureste.  Being a people person, she truly enjoyed it.  Later she ventured into a new area of work at the Oak Manor Nursing Home in Flatonia and stayed there until she retired.

She enjoyed visiting with all who crossed her path, especially the residents at Oak Manor.  The love of her faith, of music and dancing, her family and friends, and keeping up with her yard and flower beds, were her favorite pastimes.  Enjoying all her favorite activities, one thing for sure, you would not find her without her make-up on and a smile on her face.  She was very independent, living in her own home as was always her hope, until two months ago.

She is survived by many who miss her; her brothers, Lupe(Rallie), and Sam (Helen); her daughters, Lupe Ibarra (David), Mary Mendoza (Manuel); grandchildren, Veronica (Benny), Candida (Ramiro), Regine (Darren), Matthew (Memorie), Manuel Jr. (Apryl), Christopher’s wife Dalia; 16 great-grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son (John), 2 brothers (Ascencion Jr. and Modesto), 2 grandsons (David III and Christopher James), great granddaughter (Miriam G.), and nephews and niece (BJ, Jonathon, Margie).

Her family offers their sincere thanks for the words of comfort, encouragement, and prayers received during this time of sorrow.
