Kenneth “Ken” Carl Saliger, 79, of Gonzales, passed away January 27, 2022 after a 4-year battle with MDS and Leukemia.  Ken was born November 11, 1942 in Corpus Christi to Benno Carl Saliger and Flora Lee Niemann Saliger. He was a member of Abiding Word Lutheran Church.

Ken graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi with the Class of 1961.  After graduating he joined the U.S. Marine Corps attaining the rank of Corporal while serving in Vietnam. Ken was a true patriot and loved his country. He was very proud to have served his country as a United States Marine.  After being honorably discharged he attended the University of Houston and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in May of 1972.  He met Frances Griffith in chemistry class in 1968.  After a 2-year romance they were married on June 20, 1970 in Houston, Texas.  Their son, David Carl Saliger was born October 18, 1976 in Ventura, CA.

Ken worked as a sub-sea engineer for several oil companies over the years which offered him and his family opportunities to live in Houston, California, Dallas, and Norway.  He worked with Mobil Oil from 1979 to 2001. He traveled all over the world on various projects through the years.

Ken enjoyed boating, especially in fast boats.  He found peace in woodworking, building things with his son, and camping trips with his family. After retiring from Mobil Oil, he moved his family to the Saliger farm in Gonzales in 2004 where he built a beautiful home and started ranching. In his retirement he purchased a Bonneville Triumph motorcycle and enjoyed riding around Gonzales.  He was a wonderful father and roll model for his son David, taking time to teach him so much about life. He was a loving husband, always taking time to take care of his wife and family.  Just a few days before he passed away, he asked his brother Wayne to go purchase some flowers for his wife “Franny” and to put on the card “I love you, and thanks for taking care of me. Love Ken”
