Amid a low turnout of just 160 voters, Sherri Tumlinson Koepp appears to have won her runoff election against Johnny Hunt for the District 2 seat on the Gonzales City Council.

Based on unofficial results posted by the city, Koepp had 95 votes to 65 for Hunt. The 160 total votes represents just 14.69% of the 1,089 eligible voters in the District 2.

Both candidates increased their vote totals from the three-way race on May 1 that included James H. Lawrence.

Koepp – who missed avoiding a runoff by six votes on May 1 – went from gained 33 votes from her total of 62 on May 1. Hunt added 18 votes, up from 47 in May. Lawrence had 25.

The runoff was required because none of the three candidates received 50%-plus-one of the votes in the election held May 1.

Overall, 26 more people voted in the runoff than in the May 1 election, which saw 134 people (12.34%) turnout to vote.

Once the votes are canvassed and certified, Koepp will join the Gonzales City Council, replacing Tommy Schurig, who did not seek reelection.

The runoff election was determined by a simple majority of votes.

Of the 160 voters, 107 cast ballots during early voting (Koepp 63, Hunt 44) and 53 people voted on election day (Koepp 32, Hunt 21).
