The Gonzales Lady Apaches squared off against their rivals the Cuero Lady Gobblers at the Apache Gym Tuesday, Jan. 7.

The Lady Apaches struggled against Cuero’s height advantage as the Lady Gobblers scooped up multiple rebounds to score on Gonzales.

“The core came out They played well. You know, we did some things that we would like to do better, but you know, we continue to work. We'll give another shot,” Lady Apaches head basketball coach Mark Belford said.

The Lady Apaches will be without their star scorer Bella Aguero; Aguero went down with an injury before the end of the half and there is no timeline for when she’ll be back in action.

Gonzales fell to Cuero, 60-35.

Belford said he has no idea Aguero’s status or when she’ll be back on the court, but he added the mentality of the team is it is now up to the next person up to play in place of her.

The Lady Apaches will go on the road to San Antonio Friday, Jan. 10 for a game against the JFK Lady Rockets.

Belford will be getting his team ready for a huge road match.

“We’ll come into practice tomorrow. We will do what we always do. Tomorrow is a fundamental day for us. So we're working on our fundamentals and Thursday, we'll come in do our team stuff and be ready to go for Friday,” Belford said.

The JFK game will tip off at 6:30 p.m.
