The Gonzales Lady Apaches finished the Karnes City tournament with a 1-4 record with losses to Yorktown, host Karnes City, Shiner and Blanco, but they also got a victory over Stockdale to break a five-game losing streak.

On Saturday, Dec. 4, the Lady Apaches lost to Blanco, 35-24. Gonzales (4-10) held a 7-6 lead after the first period, but an 18-2 run by the Lady Panthers in the second period gave Blanco a 24-9 halftime lead that was insurmountable, even though Gonzales outscored the Lady Panthers, 15-11 in the second half.

On Friday, Dec. 3, Gonzales had a very strong defensive outing against Stockdale in a 61-38 win at the Karnes City tournament on Friday, Dec. 3.

Gonzales had its best offensive output of the season with the 61 points scored and while they shot just 33 percent from the field, they did hit 47 percent of their three-point attempts and made 67 percent of their free throws. Bella Aguero, Madison York and McKenzie Hodges all hit three-pointers in the game.

Meanwhile, the Lady Apaches held Stockdale to just 19 percent from the floor and no three-pointers made and just 36 percent from the free-throw line. The Lady Apaches also hammered the boards with a 75-38 advantage.

Gonzales lost to Shiner, 55-38, on Friday, Dec. 3, as well. They also lost to Yorktown, 41-33, and to host Karnes City, 71-37.

Against Yorktown, Gonzales fell behind big early, 16-5, in the first period. The Lady Wildcats extended their lead over the Lady Apaches to 24-9 at the break. In the second half, Gonzales attempted to mount a comeback and outscored Yorktown, 24-17, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the early 15-point deficit.

The Lady Apaches were scheduled to play at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at home against Sealy and then on the road Friday, Dec. 10, at Mathis.
