The Gonzales Lady Apaches played their final home match of their 2024 volleyball season against the San Antonio JFK Lady Rockets Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The Lady Apaches clinched their third straight playoff appearance since 2022 in the season series sweep of the Lady Rockets (25-21, 25-22, 25-20).

Gonzales rallied in the first and second, trailing more than seven points in the sets; the Lady Apaches kept their composure despite trailing against JFK.

“I feel like we just talked to ourselves. We kept each other up, and we just inspired each other to keep going and not worry about your mess-ups,” sophomore outside hitter Alaina Valle said.

“We all had positive mindsets. We were all okay, and we just maybe had a little too much confidence, and they're having too much fun. But then we brought it all together in the third set, and everything was good,” junior middle hitter Isabella Ikard said.

Valle and Ikard were part of the playoff team last season together and both are excited to keep the postseason streak alive.

“I'm excited to see how far we could go with this team, and I just wish for the best for everybody,” Ikard said.

“I feel like we've been working really, really hard this season, and I feel like all of our practices and everything have gone and it has prepared us for what we need to do in the playoffs,” Valle said.

The Lady Apache closes out the regular season on the road against the San Antonio Memorial Minute Women Tuesday, Oct. 29; Gonzales can clinch third place in district for the second year in a row with a win over Memorial.

“We're just going to practice our best during these next few practices and come home with a win,” Valle said.

“Just have confidence, believe in the team, believe in everybody, and just work hard, and then we'll win,” Ikard said.

The San Antonio Memorial match starts at 6:15 p.m.
